DATA PROTECTION POLICY

WHAT IS DATA PROTECTION?: Data protection is the process of safeguarding important information from corruption, compromise or loss. The term data protection is used to describe both the operational backup of data and business continuity/disaster recovery

The Data Protection Act, 2018 (Malta) regulates the processing of personal data whether held electronically or in manual form. The University Students of Performing Arts Association ("USPA", "the student organisation") is set to fully comply with the Data Protection Principles as set out in the Act.


A. Purpose/s for collecting data: the student organisation collects and processes information to use for detailed information and for customer support services. Where the law permits, USPA may also obtain information about you from third parties or give information. All data is collected and processed in accordance with the Data Protection Act, 2018.


B. Recipients of data: the executive board within the student organisation only are assigned to carry out the functions to access the information you give us. Personal Data may also be disclosed to third parties, who may also have access to your data as authorized by law.


C. Your rights:

  • C1: you are entitled to know, what information the student organisation holds and processes about you and why; who has access to it; how it is kept up to date; what USPA is doing to comply with its obligations under the Data Protection Act, 2018.

  • C2: the Data Protection Act, 2018 sets down a formal procedure for dealing with data subject access requests, which the student organisation acknowledges.

  • C3: all data subjects have the right to access any personal information kept about them by the student organisation, either on a computer or in manual files. Requests for access to personal information by data subjects are to be discussed through the contact page or in writing to University Students of Performing Arts Association (USPA)c/o Student HouseUniversity of MaltaMsida, MSD 2080

  • C4: USPA aims to comply as quickly as possible with requests for access to personal information and will ensure that it is provided within a reasonable time unless there is a good reason for delay. When a request for access cannot be met within a reasonable time, the reason will be explained to the data subject making the request.

  • C5: all data subjects have the right to request that their information be amended, erased or not used in the event the data is incorrect.
